5 quick ways to grow your Instagram

 

Social proof is a real thing, especially for Real Estate Agents and Lenders. Social proof is essentially the number of “followers, fans, likes” that a user has - and how that affects how other people perceive them. It’s gaining massive popularity to have a lot of followers because it makes you look more reputable. There are thousands of “influencers” on Instagram that are cashing in big $$$ and essentially growing their business solely on the growth of their Instagram. Plus, let’s be honest, when you see acquaintances. colleagues, or friends with significant “social proof,” it’s easy to ask yourself the how’s and why’s of how they got there. And, get a little F.O.M.O.

SO, HOW DO I GROW MY INSTAGRAM AND GET SOCIAL PROOF?

1 Be Consistent

When you’re first getting going on Instagram or you’ve been there for a while; it’s easy to forget about the platform or overthink what to post. If you’re serious about growing your instagram, you have to get serious about posting.

Visual marketing tool Tailwind analyzed more than 100,000 posts on instagram and found that “You can almost double your follower growth rate by moving from less than one post per week to 1-6 posts a week. You can more than double your follower growth rate again by moving from posting 1-6 times per week to once or more per day.”

In short: those who tend to be in a regular flow of posting daily tend to grow their following the fastest. Take baby steps by posting more than you’re comfortable with to evolve into this flow.

2 Engage

Social media is called SOCIAL media for a reason. They want you to use it as a platform to engage with others. Instagram will favor the post that has more engagements, showing it to more people, which in turn gets you more exposure and potential followers.

This means, when someone comments on your post, be sure to like their comment and reply back! Build community, build a following, and become a part of the conversation.

Another great way to do this is by going on the offense. Find a few hashtags or key locations ( #SothebysRealEstate #SeattleRealEstate #LenderLife Location: Target Audience), go through the photos and engage with them by shooting them a like or giving them an authentic comment. Do this daily on 100+ posts and i’m sure you’ll start to see an uptick in your instagram. 3 Do your hashtag research

The right hashtag and location strategy can get your image seen by hundreds, if not thousands of potential new followers. My take is use a mix of big hashtags (high volume) and super targeted hashtags (very specific). For example, if you’re posting a picture of your newest listing; post broad hashtags like #justlisted, #realestate, etc. Also, mix in some very specific hashtags like #(location)realestate #(location)homeforsale #(location)home #modernhomeforsale, etc.

So, how do you choose the right hashtags? Well, there are great tools out there you can check out to get some high volume hashtags, like display purposes. For the specific hashtags, try using locations in front of the broad hashtags (like the example above) or start hashtagging some specific features of the home.

HOW MANY HASHTAGS SHOULD I USE?

Well, your maximum is 30. There are many skeptics around the “perfect amount” for the most amount of engagement. I try to max it out (or get close to without being too spammy), while others say between 9-11 for optimal engagement. All in all, simply test it out and see what works well for you. Just ensure the hashtags are actually contextual to your post.

4 Live in the stories

Stories are an extremely effective way to keep your followers engaged with your brand.

SO HOW DO YOU GROW YOUR ACCOUNT WITH STORIES?

Well, there are some “hacks” to gain exposure and get you on others radar:

  • Use instagram locations in your stories (people can see these that are simply looking at the stories in your location).

  • You can also do this by using #’s. Use hashtags in your stories since you can now watch stories for specific hashtags. Use up to 11 hashtags to optimize your exposure.

  • Tag brands, friends, etc in your stories. This gives them the opportunity to share it to their stories which in turn gives you the exposure!

So what should you post to your instagram stories? Behind the scenes, touring houses, out in the community, etc. My thought? Post 5+ times per day on the story platform to really optimize your engagement and exposure.

5 Be Authentic

Okay, last but not least - be authentic on this platform to truly build a community. People will buy into YOU, not the fake you. Now more than ever, people are able to really sniff out inauthenticity. Use instagram to provide value, not show off.
